Background
In March 2006, Secretary of the Air Force Michael W. Wynne and Air Force
Chief of Staff General T. Michael Moseley authorized Air University to
design, build and launch an online master's degree program. This program
will provide Air Force officers an educational opportunity to meet the
needs of our service while also accommodating today's high operations
tempo.
The Online Master's Degree is a Win-Win
For the individual, it provides Air Force PME, Joint PME and a
master’s degree from an accredited institution, Air University.
For the Air Force, it boosts intellectual throw weight and maximizes
force development efficiencies.
Program Description
The Online Master’s Degree is a 33 semester-hour program comprised of
eleven eight-week courses which explore areas of particular interest
regarding modern USAF operations and leadership. Upon successful
completion, students are awarded their Master of Military Operational
Art and Science Degree. Additionally, completion of this program
satisfies the requirements for Joint Professional Military Education (JPME)
Phase I as well as Air Force intermediate level PME.
Students participate in asynchronous online classes facilitated by
credentialed faculty, where they will read, evaluate, and discuss course
material. Course material includes readings, multi-media presentations,
simulations, lesson-by-lesson activities, peer and self-assessments,
instructor reviews, capstone essay examinations, and a research project
on a topic in an area of concern for today’s warfighters.
Students will be able to complete this program within 24 months.
The Online Master’s Degree is a voluntary program. It is a separate
program from ACSC’s traditional Distance Learning, non-Master’s Degree
PME course, not an addendum to it. Nor does the Online Master’s Degree
replace the Distance Learning non-Master’s course. Eligible officers may
elect to take whichever program meets their particular needs best.
