Summary of Selection Process and Pilot Training:

• Interested personnel submit an application package by 1 August 2006.

• Application packages will be screened for required contents. Complete packages will be forwarded to the 158 Fighter Wing (FW) Pilot Selection Board (PSB).

• The PSB will review all application packages. Candidates selected to continue in the selection process will receive additional forms to be completed and submitted to the Pilot Selection Board prior to selection for interviews. Candidates will be required to take the Basic Attributes Test (BAT) prior to interviews. All travel, lodging, meals and any other expense, is the responsibility of the candidate.

• The PSB will select a number of candidates for Pilot Training. Candidates who are not selected may request their file remain active for future vacancies by notifying the Board in writing. • Selectees will receive the USAF Flying Class I Flight Physical.

• Once approved by ANG officials, selectees will be placed into actual training quotas for the USAF Enhanced Medical Flight Screening Program (EMFS), the Introductory Flight Training Course (IFT), the ANG Academy of Military Science (AMS) and Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT).

• EMFS is two or three days of testing at an Air Force Medical Facility. • IFT is normally a 60-day program to ensure selectees have at least 50 hours of flying time and earn their Private Pilot License prior to attending U.S. Air Force flight school (if the selectee does not already possess one).

• AMS is held at Knoxville, TN and lasts six weeks. Upon graduation from AMS, candidates are commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants in the USAF Reserve.

• SUPT is held at one of four USAF bases in the southern U.S. SUPT lasts approximately one year.

• After completion of SUPT, new Pilots will attend Water and Combat Survival Training at Fairchild AFB, Washington, (or Pensacola NAS, FL) lasting about four weeks. They will then attend F 16C Replacement Training Unit (RTU), lasting approximately six months at one of four bases.

• Upon completion of RTU, the officer will returned to the Vermont ANG, where they will receive a minimum of 254 days of active duty for Home Station Training (HST). Officers will remain on continuous active duty from the time they begin SUPT until they complete their HST, no exceptions.

• After completion of all HST requirements, the now combat-ready F-16C pilot will revert to Traditional Guard (part-time status). They will be required to perform ground and flying duties as required to meet currency, event and minimum training standards, as directed the unit Commander.
